DESCRIPTION:
The valley of Çat with its many dovecotes.
The largest underground city with its 8 floors (56 m deep).
Departure time (09:00 - 09:10) from your hotel to Çat Valley.
After a 5-hour hike in the Valley, 34 km by vehicle to Derinkuyu to visit the famous underground city. Our vehicle will drop us off in the old village of Çat. We will hike for 5 hours in two U-shaped valleys bordered by cliffs with walls covered with dovecotes on several floors. Some dovecotes are coloured from the outside to attract pigeons whose droppings have been used as fertilizer since the Byzantine period. We will picnic in a cave in the valley. Then Departure by vehicle for the underground city of Derinkuyu.
We will visit this city which dates from the 8th and 7th centuries BC and which was discovered by chance in 1963. Return to your hotel.
