TOUR DESCRIPTION

Our journey begins with a departure (09:00 – 09:10) from your hotel to the Old Village of Çat. Here, we embark on a 5-hour hike through two magnificent U-shaped valleys bordered by high cliffs.

The walls of these cliffs are covered with intricate dovecotes (pigeon houses), some rising 3, 4, 5, or even 8 floors high. You will notice some dovecotes are colored from the outside; this was done to attract pigeons, whose droppings have been highly valued as fertilizer since the Byzantine period.

A unique highlight of this tour is our lunch: we will picnic in a cave nestled within the valley, enjoying nature in its purest form.

DERINKUYU UNDERGROUND CITY

After the hike, a 34 km drive takes us to the largest underground city in Cappadocia: Derinkuyu.

  • Depth: It descends 8 floors deep (approx. 56 meters).
  • History: Dating back to the 8th and 7th centuries BC.
  • Discovery: Discovered by chance in 1963, it remains one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the region.

GOOD TO KNOW:
Entrance fees to the Underground City are included in this tour price.
